Matthew Bruce
(aka Brucey | MatRat | Aussie Matt | Matt from Putney Town | ‘That guy I’m having a drink with’)

Born 7th July, 1980, Sydney Australia.

The first 28 years of Matt’s life passed without instance. He led a secluded existence, confined within an area known locally as ‘the Shire’, until a pivotal moment was reached; on the 23rd July 2008 it finally came time for Matt to expand his horizons.

Retiring from service as Club Captain of the esteemed Cronulla Surf Life Saving Club, he bid farewell to the golden sands of Cronulla and left the shores of the great nation of Australia in search of knowledge, enlightenment and German bier – and he has not looked back.

As Matt’s journey continues, he remembers his roots and works tirelessly to spread the good word of Cronulla Surf Life Saving Club – and the Australian way of life – throughout his new home in England, and indeed the entire world. In his honorary self-appointed position of Foreign Correspondent, Matt provides regular updates on his travels via this blog.*

This blog serves to keep those back home informed of his adventures and to provide reassurance that he is indeed living up to the important position bestowed upon him.

So many countries, so many people! Spreading the gospel of Cronulla so far and wide is indeed a daunting task – but a task none-the-less that is tackled with great ferver and passion! And made all the more easy with the recent appointment of numerous ‘Senior Correspondents’ to ease the burden, including Tom Wood (of the United States of America) and George R.P. Negus, who’s most recent exploits include a valiant attempt to circum-navigating the world on his bike.

Until the day comes when the lure of Cronulla Beach, and the many wonderful friends and characters he has left behind becomes too great, thus once again he will stride confidently into the Cecil Bar on a Friday night, and rightfully take up a place at the Table of Knowledge, cold beer in hand. And Cronulla will be richer for the knowledge, wisdom and German bier that he brings back with him.

* Matthew is also a regular guest columnist for the news publication “Cronulla Capers”.
